Di Bird is an award-winning jazz vocalist. Born in rural New South Wales, she moved to Sydney in her late teens to pursue a professional singing career. She has collaborated with some of Australia’s jazz greats, such as Graeme Bell, Ed Gaston and Dave Panichi.
Di Bird swings, and her vocals takes audiences on a musical journey. From full voiced raunchy blues and Latin, to smooth and classy standards, she is well known for soothing audiences with her ballads. Di favours the tunes made famous by Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn and Billie Holiday.
Di and her band, Red Hot and Blue, have played extensively in venues and festivals in Australia and New Zealand including recent performances on Lindeman Island, at Jazz à Vienne Sydney, the Queenstown International Jazz Festival and Bennett’s Lane, Melbourne’s premier jazz club.
Other keynote performances include sets at the ever popular Manly Jazz Festival in Sydney and Magnetic Island’s legendary Great Tropical Jazz Party. They’ve also wowed audiences at the Noosa Jazz Festival for more than five years and in 2003 were voted Most Popular Band by enthusiastic punters.
2008 saw a tour of Tasmania following on from their Melbourne shows, and shows in New Zealand leading up to their Queenstown performance.
